Study Questions

  1. Why does John write 1 John (see 2:1; 5:13)?

  2. How can we know that we have come to know God (see 2:3)?

  3. How can we know we have been born of God (see 2:28-29)?

  4. What hope is John talking about in 3:3, and what does it produce?

  5. What does it mean to “overcome the world” (5:4-5)?

  6. What does God do for His children (5:18)?

  7. Survey the book of 1 John and see how many tests of the new birth you can identify. Do any of these encourage you? Do they cause you concern? What can you do to alleviate any concern, and how might you use these to help and encourage others?
