Outline

  1. Walk Worthy

  2. Stand Firm

Study Questions

  1. The point was made in last week’s sermon and carried into this week’s message that the Christian life is a life of worship (see Rom 12:1-8).

    1. How should thinking of our lives as redeemed children of God in terms of worshippers change the way we approach the commands in Scripture?

    2. How can other passages like 1 Pet 2:9-10 and 2 Cor 7:1 help inform our approach to Paul’s teaching in Ephesians 4-6?

    3. According to Romans 12:2, where does our worship begin?

  2. The outline of the first section “walk worthy” included 5 principles based on the word “walk.”

    1. What do the Scriptures often mean when they say “walk,” especially in the epistles?

    2. What are the five headings taken from the text?

    3. Briefly describe each of these headings.

  3. Rather than being commands we are expected to just obey, Paul bases these headings in things that are already true about us.

    1. What is true about us that enables us to walk in unity (see 2:11-22)?

    2. What is true about us that enables us to walk in newness of life (see 2:1-10; 2:20-22)?

    3. What is true about us that enables us to walk in love (see 1:4-6; 2:4; 3:19; 5:1)?

    4. What is true about us that enables us to walk in light (see 5:8; 1 Pet 2:9; 1 Thess 5:4-8; 2 Cor 4:6; John 8:12)?

    5. What is true about us that enables us to walk in wisdom (see 1 Cor 1:30; 2:16)? *please note, the final one, “wisdom,” may be an exception, unless it’s understood that in Ephesians Paul’s command to “walk wisely” is a general command to walk in light of what we now know to be true about God, ourselves, the world, and what we now possess in Christ. Still, this wisdom can only come from God.
